Russia's Foreign Minister Lavrov on NATO: NATO should have dissolved itself, just as the Warsaw Pact did after the disappearance of the Soviet Union. They did not do that. First, they saw the events in Afghanistan as a reason to preserve this military bloc. Then, when that story also ended disastrously for NATO and they fled from there, they invented the Russian threat to replace the Soviet threat.
