U.S. Navy P-8A transits Taiwan Strait; PLA monitors

INTELLIGENCE SUMMARY

A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft transited the Taiwan Strait on Aug. 21, flying along the western side of the Strait median line before turning south through southwestern Taiwan toward the Bashi Channel. The PLA's Eastern Theater Command tracked and monitored the aircraft throughout the transit. The P-8A is used for anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, and intelligence collection.
